Abstract: Effect of rare earth element Ce on the as-cast microstructure and precipitates of Cu-containing grain-oriented silicon steel was investigated by means of laser scanning confocal microscope and transmission electron microscope. The results show that rare earth element Ce can refine grains in the as-cast microstructure of the Cu-containing grain-oriented silicon steel. In addition, there are coarse (Cu,Mn)S+AlN composite precipitates and a small amount of separate precipitates including MnS and Cu2S in the ingot cast without Ce addition. By adding Ce, the types of the as-cast precipitates do not change, while their amounts decrease significantly and their sizes increase somewhat.
