Abstract: Macrostructure and microstructure of the piston of an internal combustion engine were analyzed by means of metallographic examination. The results show that the dispersed porosity and the concentrated porosity in the piston matrix are level 1 and level 1, respectively. The dispersive hole and the concentrated hole in the composite position are grade 1 and grade 1, respectively. The α-solid solution in the piston specimen is large, eutectic silicon is in short strip shape, some are in small block shape, and primary silicon is in medium block shape, and slightly aggregated, so is rated as grade 3. The fishbone-like iron inclusion and acicular iron inclusion are not obvious, so the iron inclusions are rated as grade 1.
