Abstract: Effect of tempering temperature on microstructure and mechanical properties of 40CrMoVNbTi steel was investigated by means of 780 ℃ subcritical quenching and tempering at different temperatures. The mechanical properties, microstructure and impact fracture of the 40CrMoVNbTi steel tempered at different temperatures were observed and analyzed. The test results show that the strength decreases and the plastic index increases with the increase of tempering temperature, and the impact absorbed energy value tempered at 300 ℃ is the lowest and the temper brittleness occurs. The tensile strength of the 40CrMoVNbTi steel tempered at 200 ℃ is 2150 MPa and KV2 is 23.8 J. When tempered at 550-600 ℃,the microstructure of the 40CrMoVNbTi steel is tempered sorbite, the tensile strength is 1190-1070 MPa and KV2 is 94-123 J, and the mechanical properties can meet the requirements of AISI 4140 steel and have a high impact property.
