Abstract: Effect of PIP nitriding treatment on microstructure and mechanical properties of 25Cr3Mo3NiNbZr steel was investigated by using XRD, optical microscope, scanning electron microscope, tensile testing machine and impact testing machine. The results show that a nitrided layer with the surface hardness higher than 900 HV10 is formed on the 25Cr3Mo3NiNbZr steel after PIP nitriding treatment, the surface microindentation is free of cracking and collapsing phenomenon, and the brittleness is grade 1. The fracture analysis results show that the nitrided layer region is characterized by cleavage fracture, and the nitrided layer does not fall off during the tensile process, and the bonding strength with the matrix is high. The formation of nitrided layer can play a role in hindering plastic deformation, and there is no significant change in the strength of the 25Cr3Mo3NiNbZr steel after PIP nitriding, but the plasticity and toughness are reduced.
