Abstract: In order to improve the wear resistance of magnesium alloy, the Al-based amorphous coating was deposited on the magnesium alloy substrate by cold spraying (CS). The microstructure was characterized by scanning electron microscope, and the amorphous content in sprayed powder and coating was analyzed by means of X-ray diffraction analysis. The wear resistance and wear mechanism were also studied by means of miniature controlled atmosphere friction and wear tester. The results show that the amorphous structure of the powder is retained after the cold spraying process and the content of amorphous structure in the coating is about 48%. The coating performs dense microstructure and the coating porosity is 0.59%. The wear loss and wear rate of the coating are lower than the magnesium alloy matrix, but the friction coefficient is higher than that of the substrate.
