Effect of tempering temperature on microstructure and mechanical properties of Nb microalloyed NM500 steel

Abstract: Nb microalloyed NM500 steel was quenched at 930 9C and tempered at 210,240,270 and 300 C,respectively.Effects of tempering temperature on microstructure and mechanical properties of tested steel were analyzed.The microstructure,impact fracture morphology and strengthening mechanism of the tested steel tempered at different temperatures were studied by SEM and TEM.The results show that the tested steel has the best comprehensive mechanical properties when quenched at 930 C and tempered at 240 C,and the corresponding strengthening mechanism is a combination of solution strengthening,phase transformation strengthening,precipitation strengthening and fine grain strengthening.
