Abstract: Formation causes of electroplating mildew spot on 45Mn steel part surface was analyzed by studying the chemical composition, original microstructure and surface quality of the part and the raw steel sheet. The results show that both the chemical composition and the microstructure of the raw steel sheet meet the standard requirements and without abnormality. However, the roughening of the steel surface and the existence of carbon segregation defects lead to microcracks on the electroplating steel surface, which are the main reasons for the electric plating defects. Through optimizing the production process and improving the surface quality, the formation of the mildew spot on the surface of electroplating steel part can be avoided.

Key words: chemical composition, surface roughness, electric plating, surface microcrack
