Failure analysis of wheel cracking in ladle crane

Abstract: Wheel of the ladle crane suddenly cracked during use. Chemical composition analysis,fracture analysis,microstructure examination and hardness testing were used to analyze the reasons of the crack. The result show that due to improper material selection of the wheel, transforming the forging process into casting production and substandard heat treatment effect, the overall strength of the wheel is low and the brittleness is large, resulting in the cracks initiate at the edge of the web process hole under heavy load working stress propagate along the circumferential direction of the tire.When the crack growth to a certain level,the wheel brittle cracked due to insufficient strength and high brittleness.
