Abstract: Mg-Gd-Y-Zr alloy was annealed at 350 ℃, and the surface oxidation behavior during the annealing process was systematically characterized using optical microscope, scanning electron microscope, and X-ray diffraction. The results show that significant changes occur in the alloy during the annealing process, with Gd and Y elements aggregating along the initial grain boundaries and alloy surface. The specimen undergoes uneven oxidation, where the oxidation rate at the initial grain boundary is higher than that inside the grain. The main component of the oxide film is (Gdx,Y2-x)O3.

Key words: Mg-Gd-Y-Zr alloy, high temperature annealing, (Gdx,Y2-x)O3 oxide film
